2018 MARCH
We are extremely delighted to have our first
newsletter for 2018. A lot is happening in the
world of business analysis. Our intent is to
bring you the most happening stuff that
affects the business analyst community.
At Adaptive US, we are constantly improving
ourselves to serve our customers better.
We are experimenting with artificial
intelligence to translate our content into
multiple languages. This allows business
analysts from many countries to learn from
the vast experience our BA team has
gathered over the years. Our 4 Principal BAs
combined have 100+ years BA experience
and have served more than 100 clients in
their business analysis endeavor. My
colleague, LN will describe our challenges
and learning during our AI journey.
We have been truly focused on delivering
great business analysis content to our
participants. We significantly improved our
question banks for BABoK® V3 examination
schemes. This has given us fantastic results.
Our CBAP® success rate is at least 40%
higher than our competitors. We have helped
300+ BAs to be internationally accredited
and we hope to reach 500 number this year.
Our customers are our guardian angels. We
exist for you. So do give us your inputs,
suggestions and feedback that will help us to
serve you better. My colleague, Sonal has
captured some beautiful feedback we
received from our participants.
March happens to be International Women’s
month and we have been supporting women
to come back to work. As part of the
International Women’s month celebrations,
all women customers are eligible for a 10%
cashback on their purchases.
As I sign-off, I would like to thank each and
every member of Adaptive for all the
fabulous work they have put in which has
helped us to become the World’s most
preferred IIBA® certification training
provider.

Artificial intelligence allows organizations to
do lots of activities which was considered to
be the prerogative of only human beings.
With increased affordable computing power,
it is possible today for computers to decipher
a lot of information which was only possible
through very expensive machines.
Organizations obviously should take
advantage of artificial intelligence to improve
their products and services.
In this article, I am going to describe our
efforts in utilizing artificial intelligence to
increase our product portfolio and the kind of
challenges that we faced during our AI
project.
As a knowledge driven organisation, we have
a lot of content made in our primary
language, English. However, we realized that
business analysis is not limited to English
speaking countries alone. There are business
analysts in possibly more than 20 key
languages such as German, Spanish, French,
Italian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean etc.
Any country which does not use English as a
primary language, business analysts would
be using their own mother tongue for
creating software.
So, we decided to utilize the Google
translation services to create products in
other languages. Our first attempt was to
convert one of our popular books on
requirements engineering.
We need to ensure that the translation is
accurate. How do you verify a language that
you don’t know?
What we attempted is an interesting
thought. We translated from English to
Spanish and back translated Spanish version
to English. If the original English version and
the translated English version matched, then
we understand that the translation to
Spanish has been at a fairly acceptable level.
The real challenge that we faced was with
respect to image conversions. Artificial
intelligence has not reached the level where
if you have text on an image it can actually
process the images directly. For that reason
what we attempted is to provide the text on
top of the image so that the original English
text is hidden and a textbox with same text is
placed on top. With this, we got the images
easily converted from current English version
to any other language that we would like to
publish.
Stay tuned. In about a month’s time, we
would have our first version on business
analysis book in German.

As a Business Analyst, have you been thinking
of a unique way of representing business
vocabulary? Are your stakeholders looking for a
change from the technical nature associated
with data models, class diagrams etc.? Well,
Concept model is something you should try.
According to BABoK V3.0, “A concept model is
used to organize the business vocabulary
needed to consistently and thoroughly
communicate the knowledge of a domain.”
Concept models typically starts with a glossary.
It emphasizes on rich vocabulary and calls for
identifying the appropriate set of terms to be
used in business communications. It is
represented by means of relationships.
Let’s look at the concept model for SuXeed,
Adaptive’s BA Learning Platform
(AdaptiveUS.com/SuXeed).
Concept models play around noun and verb
concepts. As we can see, SuXeed deals with 5
major concepts Course, Workshop, Content,
Participant and Trainer. These are called noun
concepts. As for that which connects the noun
concepts with one another is referred to as verb
concepts as it depicts some form of action. For
instance, ‘conducts’, ‘develops’, ‘trains’ etc. are
verb concepts. Now, how can we make sense
out of this representation?
If we were to read a concept model, it would be
something like this - a trainer conducts multiple
courses, content is developed by a trainer, a
workshop has multiple participants, a trainer
trains participants etc.
Each of the 5 concepts work together to
understand the type of information that is
elicited, analyzed or managed within SuXeed.
This is certainly a great way to organize,
manage and communicate meanings precisely
and unambiguously to stakeholders in a
business friendly manner. However, this
technique calls for the ability to think abstractly
and non-procedurally and may need some tool
support for proper implementation.
